Dexter's 10 Month Check Up

Dex had his ten month check up last weekend and he's doing great. His new stats: weight 19 lbs., 10 oz. (25th percentile); length 29 1/2 inches (65th percentile); head circumference 19 inches (100th percentile, ha ha). The top couple pix are just from hangin' out at the house this weekend. I hope picture no. 2 doesn't portend Sloane's new favorite pastime. The bottom pix are from the doctor's office during Dexter's check up. Sloane wanted to get checked out and didn't know why all the attention was given to the little man. So, she got up on the table too. And, she held Dexter's hand while he got his shots. And, I kid you not, the kid didn't even wince or make a face, let alone make a sound or cry. Two tough nuts, that's what I've got!

Daisy Spends the Weekend with Sloane

Daisy is the preschool class's pet monkey. Sloane got to babysit her this weekend. So, mommy and Sloane took Daisy to Magic Mountain on Saturday. But, Daisy said the roller coasters looked scary and decided to take a nap in the car instead. Sloane, on the other hand, looked up at the biggest roller coasters while we were in the park and "Mommy, I want to go on that!" It was hard explaining to Sloane that she was not tall enough -- "No, mommy, I big!" Sloane "No Fear" Mendelsohn will have to wait a few years, I think. Still, she got to tell Daisy all about the rides she did get to go on and explained that they were fun and safe. But, Sloane had to translate this news into Monkish, so she said "Ooh ooh! Aah aah!"

Ooh ooh!
Aah aah!

Magic Mtn!

Sloane and her mommy had a very fun morning at Magic Mountain. Daddy was away in Vegas, so mommy, Sloane and Dex spent the night on Friday with the grandparents McKenzie in Van Nuys. On Saturday morning, we had a nice breakfast and then off Sloane and mommy went to Valencia, California. Even though Dex had already had an hour nap that morning, he took another 2 hour nap right after we left! Sloane fell asleep in the car, but then was full of energy and excitement -- as she was on a mission to see her beloved Tweetie Bird! As you can tell, the meeting did not disappoint. She also got to meet Sylvester, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and (not pictured) Wonder Woman (!!) and Batman! She also got to ride on Thomas the Train. What a day! And, now that mommy has a season pass, we'll be back again really soon.

Tutu and TuNu Teeth

Just your typical morning shenanigans around our house -- except that Sloane insisted on wearing a tutu to school and Dexter woke late with what initially seemed like a bad case of red-faced bed head (see red face and cheek below). But, when one side of Dexter's face stayed red all day and he threw up after waking from a nap, Dan picked the kids up early and took Dex to the doctor. Alls well that ends well, but we still have no idea what happened. Though it seemed like an allergic reaction, we don't think it was because Dex hadn't had any new food or other products. The doctor thought maybe it was a stomach flu. (Do some people get rashes with stomach flu?) Unsurprisingly, he was happy and jolly despite it all. But, on the way home, Dan got an extra treat for his efforts -- poor Sloanie threw up in the car. By the next morning, both kids were happy as could be. Crazy kids!

** You can just about make out the little man's new choppers in these pics -- so cute!

Mother's Day 2010

Me and my kids! It was a great mother's day. It started out with good quality time with each kid -- I got up really early. Then, we all went to IHOP. YUM! Then I had a tea party with Sloane while Dex took a long nap. Then my parents came over with lunch, which was topped off with delicious strawberries. Dex got to try one too! It's pretty clear both of my kids love 'em!

And, I love that first shot. Seems to capture the personalities pretty well -- at least at the moment it was taken. To be fair, Sloane had been quite a trooper for many photos before this one. But, she finally had enough (especially considering it was the SECOND time we stopped her new, beloved Alice in Wonderland in order to take MORE pictures!) and refused to pose . . . but, clearly, she couldn't bear the thought of not actually being in the photo! Dex, happy as a little clam and just shocked and delighted with life; nothing surprising there. Dizzy, a little manic, but a whole lotta sweet. And, me, trying to keep them all together . . . with varying degrees of success. Too funny!

Mother's Day Celebration at Daycare

Paramount had a Mother's Day celebration last Thursday. I went to the breakfast in the infant room, but unfortunately couldn't make it back for the preschool events at 4pm. Still, I spent some extra time hanging out in the preschool room with both of my darlings before heading to the infant party with Dex. Sloane was invited, but clearly had more important things to do in the preschool room! In the pics below, you see her hugging her "sister" Miranda (who is 5, the age Sloane says she is) and standing with fellow preschoolers Samantha and Julia Dover. So cute! Dex is also hanging out with a buddy below, one of the five or six baby boys his age -- I can't remember his name though - oops! (Aidan? maybe that's it . . .) Funny, I actually took off his bib for most of the pictures I posed for with him, but alas, it seems like the less prepped shots tend to turn out the best. In any event, we all had fun!

Video Highlights

Darling Sloane being herself on Mother's day. She continues to love the Wizard of Oz . . . and to spin in circles. She is tutu cute! (ba dum bum)

Dex is getting ready to learn to crawl. And, he just got two teeth. AND, he's saying dada constantly (and said mama a bunch of times this morning . . . for mother's day . . . I kid not!)

I took Sloane to work on Saturday to pick up a delivery of flowers from Dan that arrived on Friday (when I was unexpectedly working from home). She decided she should take over for my lazy butt as soon as we arrived.

This video that Dan shot a month ago is SO CUTE that I figured I would upload it to youtube, and since I did, I figured I'd give you guys the large version here on the blog as well. So worth one mintue of your life!

Jackie's Bachelorette: Playa del Carmen, Mexico

We had a fabulous time in Mexico for Jackie's bachelorette. The wind was blowing hard, the sun was shining strong, the margaritas were flowing and we did our best to get our RELAX ON. I got two (that's right, two) hot stone massages. We laid out by the pool, ate dinner in a cave (see below) and went dancing on the beach. We had a great lingerie shower too -- complete with a tequila tasting and a ceviche making course. We did have some casualties by night number two (poor Jamie and Kate!!), but everyone seemed to be mostly put back together by Sunday morning. What a great weekend. I'm already looking forward to Caribbean adventure 2011. Where will it be, ladies?

Monday Morning Monkies

Mommy brought home Cheeky Carmen and Cheeky Charlie from Mexico for little Dex and Sloane. Mommy missed them (and Dan!) so much! AND, Dexter got his first two teeth while Mommy was in Mexico and seems so close to saying "Dada." Wow, can't miss a minute with that kid! (I will follow up with Mexico pics shortly . . .)
