Rancho Mirage Weekend Getaway

Dan and I got a much needed, refreshing weekend away, courtesy of Gammy (as Dexter refers to Boo-Boo Grandma). We slept and ate and napped and watched movies and ate and went to the movies and slept some more. Oh, and there was a water slide at our hotel! So. Much. Fun. It was really great.

Disneyland Day (couple weeks ago)

Couple weekends ago ... haven't posted in a while because we didn't have internet access ... or TV or phone. It only took AT&T 10 days to fix it. but who's counting.

Disney Day

The kids and their mommy had a fun day at the House of Mouse. We did a lot of things we don't usually do -- Jungle Ride, Tree House, Tom Sawyer's Island, the Pinocchio Ride, the Disneyland Train -- and some of the old standbys -- Dumbo, Carousel, Haunted Mansion. We even stood in line to meet Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, which was also something new. Sloane was thrilled and Dex was scared. Very cute. They were so good too! 10am - 3pm and we left without incident. Good day!

Dizzy's New Family (sniff, sniff)

This weekend, Dizzy drove up to Berkeley. In addition to his studies at Cal, Dizzy also left to go live with Kristin. As you can tell from the pictures below (last one is a split second after a big smooch), he has never been shy about expressing his undying love for Ms. Brainerd. (Is she a mom to him or a girlfriend? Hard to tell!) He lept right up into the car as if driving away with her was the most natural thing in the world. Kris texted me from the road to let me know he was doing great and snoring loudly from the back seat. That kid!
It was pretty sad to see him go, but his enduring love for Kris and immediate love for Jamil made the "hand off" much easier. It was the right time. Dizzy was getting grumpier and grumpier with the kids, growling and just on edge all the time. The kids were scared too and avoided all interaction with him, if possible. It's too bad Diz couldn't get over it, but I think he was just scared more than jealous, though that could not have helped. So, on the bright side, this really will be better for everyone. And, Kris was able to leave with him on her birthday, commenting that it was one of the best birthday gifts she has ever received. Indeed! Happy Birthday, Kris. Diz, you will be missed!

Community Helpers Day

Wednesday was "Community Helpers" Day in Sloane's class at School. Her class dressed up as various community helpers, so Sloane decided to be Doctor Cutie (Dr. Mendelsohn, if you're nasty). She also had to build a model of her house (!!), which the whole family helped to build on Monday night out of two milk cartons, some supplies from mommy's office and an art store ... and a dream. Dex was insistent on claiming his rightful position next to the house when I was taking pictures of Dr. Mendelsohn and the model house on Wednesday morning. So, Officer Dex was on duty that morning. With picture days at school today and Friday, homework for Sloane every night, share days on Wednesday for Sloane and Friday for Dexter and a million other school things going on this month, you can see why the posting has basically ceased. Hopefully I can get back up to speed one of these days!
Oh, and I also included a pic of the house from this week too, which Sloane needed to bring to school with her model. We are almost done with the deck project -- deck rebuilt, lower balcony rebuilt, stairs added. Just need to get those glass railings put in! (I never thought this thing would get so out of control when I started looking for a company to replace the railings ... in March!)

Daddy's Doctor Visit

Daddy got a nasty spider bite and when the swelling hadn't subsided after a few days (eeek!), he had to go to urgent care to get it checked out. On a Saturday. Which normally wouldn't be a problem except that mommy had to work all day. So, daddy had to take the kids. I guess the doctor felt that Sloane needed a perscription too (for "Extra Quiet Pills"). HA!

Swimming with Cookie Grandma

Sloane was SO proud that she can now stand in the shallow end of the pool, unassisted. Dex was just excited to get to go swimming. And, Dan and Shane were thrilled to get a date afternoon (complete with viewing of Rise of Planet of the Apes) while the McKenzie grandparents watched the kids. Thanks, Cookies!
