More Zoo

What babydaddy fails to tell you -- and what the iphone camera couldn't quite capture -- is that she was actually quite pleased to see the gorilla a few feet from her. As she turned around from the glass with a huge smile, exciting and pointing to the gorilla, her mom had the camera ready . . . and the battery died before what would have been THE shot of the day. Sigh. Even her mom's backup camera's battery was done. Mental note: before the next big outing, recharge the battery. Still, babydaddy has a point, the non-animal aspects of the zoo were much more interesting to little Sloane, including the other kids, the pig mosaic and random tunnels leading seemingly to nowhere. Next time I think we'll pass on the "children's zoo" and head right to the chimps. We definitely did one thing right though -- get there when the zoo opens and get in and out in under two hours to be home in time for Sloane's nap. That's the perfect amount of zoo or museum time for one day.

Gorillas in our midst

This is Sloane's first visit to the Los Angeles Zoo. Pictured: Sloane, a Gorilla. Not pictured: enthusiasm, interest. For Sloane, getting in the car and driving to a new, exotic locale = meh, whereas our dog is a constant source of wonder and merriment. The lesson, as always--effort is too much effort.

Football Club Barce-sloane-a

Here is Sloane in the very cute personalized soccer (football to you Europeans out there) uniform that Sloane's Spanish Aunt and Uncle sent to her. I think they are trying to stack the deck so that she roots for FC Barcelona (I mean, Barce-sloane-a!) instead of Real Madrid. In ten years, won't they be playing the Galaxy? Could a female in my house not root for Beckham? We'll see!

Height: 33 inches, 90th percentile
Weight: 25 lbs., 11 oz., 65th percentile
Head Circumference: 20 inches, 90th percentile

Sleepover at Grandma's

Sloane spent the night with her grandparents on New Years Eve and loved carrying her little "Ready or Not Grandma, Here I Come!" suitcase. So cute!
